Festival Latino de People en Español

This year i got to attend a 2 day celebration of the hispanic heritage with the popular Latin magazine "People en Español" the weekend was presented at the Jacob Javits Center on a Saturday and Sunday it was a very enjoyable and star studded event.

El Pequeño Gigante open the Festival with the National Anthem

The annual festival was moved in 2015 to New York City to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the popular Spanish language periodical. It had been held in San Antonio, Texas in each of the previous three years.
There was so many visitors that weekend, lot's of celebrations i saw a different program with different celebrities appearing on each day. Also, the wide variety of special guests to an audience of many ages and nationalities, this festival was free admission and encouraged families of several generations to attend together.

There were several panel discussions that drew a large audience, some fortunate to obtain seats and many others standing. The first featured musical greats. The superstar couple from Cuba, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, who have collectively garnered 26 Grammy awards, spoke about their current Broadway production, “On Your Feet”, which is giving previews at the Marquis Theatre.

They were soon joined by rapper Pitbull, born in Miami, but of Cuban heritage. Although of different generations and musical genres, they showed their closeness to one another. Emilio praised Pitbull for his professionalism and personal decency in the strongest words. Pitbull spoke encouragingly to the young people in the crowd. Despite his difficult childhood, he reminded everyone, “Every day above ground is a great day.”

The second panel had a special appeal to young people as it featured three female vocalists, Leslie Grace, Jasmine V. and Sofía Reyes, who have just completed their teenage years. Each explained how she began her professional career. They then responded to questions from children in the audience with words of encouragement and hopes that can be fulfilled.

With the coolest Latin DJ of NYC DJ Sensation and the Beautiful Julissa from Republica Dominicana.

It was truly an amazing weekend specially when you embrace your culture and first language as a Latina Born in Caracas Venezuela i am always proud of my country and the opportunity of doing backstage press at the festival latino de People en Español was just fabulous.
